HOLIDAY WITH YOUR DOG!

Are you going on summer vacation and are you planning on taking your dog with you? In this article, we describe what you need to take into account when taking your dog on holiday.

To overview

Check before you travel

In some countries or states, your dog needs to be microchipped, the rabies vaccination needs to be up to date, and you may need to bring a dog passport or health certificate from the vet. Always check the local rules of the country or state to which you will travel.

Travelling with your dog

How will you keep your dog safe in the car? Do you use a dog crate, a harness or a dog guard? Always check the rules in the country or state to which you are travelling, since some states and countries require your dog to be restrained in your car.

Plan enough breaks during your journey to let your pet walk around and relieve itself, at least every two hours. Moreover, keep your car well ventilated. Even with the air-conditioning on, it can become quite hot at the back of the car. Especially when the sun is shining through the back window, the temperature can rise easily. The DRY® Cooling Vest can help your dog during a car ride. This cooling vest only needs to be filled with water and cooling will start immediately for up to 3 days. In this way, you can keep your dog cool during a car ride.

Your stay

Are dogs allowed at your destination? And are there facilities for dogs? We advise to check the weather at your holiday destination and to prepare for hot weather to prevent a heatstroke. The DRY® Cooling Vest could help you with this. The vest offers immediate cooling, also during walks. Thanks to the patented system, the amount of cooling is adaptive based on the ambient air temperature, making undercooling very unlikely. So keep your dog cool and avoid heat stress!

What to bring when travelling

  • Dog passport or health certificate
  • Your dog’s regular food
  • Water to give to your dog during the trip
  • Food and water bowls
  • Dog treats
  • First aid kit for pets
  • Dog toys

This list with examples is non-exhaustive. What you will need to bring with you during a holiday depends on your dog’s needs.

Know the signs of heat stroke and contact your veterinarian immediately if you recognize one or more of these signs! Do NOT leave your dog alone in a car, also NOT in the shade, with the windows open or while wearing the DRY® Cooling Vest!
